Procedure for getting a dental veneer
Usually, you need three trips to the dentist to get a dental veneer. One for a consultation and other two for making and for application of the veneers.

  • The first step involves making an appointment with your dentist and explain the result you are expecting. Your dentist will examine your teeth to ensure dental veneers are appropriate for you and discuss the procedure and some of its limitations. He or she may also undertake X-rays to make impressions of your mouth as well as teeth.

  •        To make tooth ready for a dental veneer, your dentist will start by removing about ½ millimeter of enamel from the surface of your tooth, which is almost equal to the thickness of the veneer to be placed on the tooth surface. Before taking off the enamel, your dentist will apply a local anesthetic to numb the area. After that, your dentist will prepare a model of your teeth, which will be sent out to a dental laboratory to construct your veneer. This process usually takes 2-4 weeks of time.

  •       Your dentist will temporarily place the veneer on your tooth before placing it permanently to examine its color and fit. He or she will keep trimming the veneer till it achieves the proper fit and to adjust the veneer color shade of cement can be used. The tooth receiving the veneer needs to be prepared by cleaning, polishing, and etching, which make the tooth rough to allow a strong bonding. A special cement used to place the veneer on your tooth. Once veneer is placed properly on the tooth, your dentist will apply a special light beam to the dental veneer that will activate the chemicals in the cement, letting it harden or cure very quickly.
